K’Gari (Fraser Island)

18-22 July

Camp Leader: Graham Rose

Graham Rose has volunteered to lead the K’gari camp in July so please let Graham know if your interested in going. (graham.rose1@bigpond.com)

K’Gari is so good. This is going to be a cracker, hopefully the weather cooperates.

This camp is limited to 16 paddlers (including organisors Graham and Louise) due to the camping limits at the sites planned, so if you want to go, be in the first 14 to respond to to Graham. You’ll then have a week to pay the $30 camp fees. We’ve booked all the available camp sites at Awinya Creek to ensure that we are able to take 16.

This trip will now commence on Tuesday 18th of July, leaving from Urangan boat harbour around 8:30am. The first camp will be Woralie Creek approx. 25 – 30k from Urangan, with a rest stop at Coongul Creek after 20km.

Wednesday 19th, break camp and paddle approx. 10k to Awinya Creek where we spend two nights. A day paddle to Wathumba Creek and a spot of  “Whale Bothering” maybe undertaken during the camp at Awinya.

Friday 21st, break camp and paddle back to Coongul Creek where we spend the last night.

Saturday 22nd, break camp early to paddle back to Urangan before the turn of the high tide, which is about midday.

Notes: The boat harbour public boat ramp can be busy, but there is an option to use a beach at the end of boat harbour drive (nr. Fisherman’s Wharf). This is a bush camp and there is no water or toilet facilities at any of the proposed camp sites. Sufficient food for five days with an extra meal in case the weather delays our planned return.

I recommend that you have carry straps prepared for beach landing, as this will enable others to help lift heavy kayaks. If anyone requires accommodation in Urangan on Monday night, then there are a couple of caravan parks close by
