The SmartTrack Rudder failed on my Stellar Intrepid Si18.
In fact, it was an internal rod called the ‘whiz rod’ located in the rudder housing.
The rod aids leverage to the rudder blade from ‘down-to-horizontal’ position, guided by pressed-in pins that slide within the housing.
This item is not included in any normal available ‘SmartTrack’ spare parts.
I was unable to source the individual part from:
- The kayak supplier. Stellar Kayaks Australia
- Within Australia via other major kayak retailers
However, I did manage to contact the Manufacturer, SMARTTRACK LLC, in the USA who was able to advise that such a spare part was available and could supply the required part from Hong Kong (East Wind Co, Ltd) for a low cost of $2 plus postage.
